Who Am I?

I am an avid runner and have been running since I was 15 years old. I began running low to medium distances while on my high school track team, running the 800 meter and 1600 meter races (I was a sub 5 miler and a 2 minute 800 runner). In addition to the track team, I also joined the cross country team. After high school I still wanted to run and decided to start doing road races. I have probably ran a couple hundred 5k races (16.29 PR)along with many 10k's as well. In 2009 I decided to step up my game and try to tackle my first marathon. I will be honest; the only reason I did this was because my father ran a few and I wanted to show him that I could do what he did. I trained poorly for my first one and regret it. If you are going to run a race, train like you want to win. I still continue to run marathons and other distances as well, and every race is a chance for me to better myself.
I started this blog to hopefully communicate with other runners and to shed any knowledge I may have about the sport that can help other runners. I believe running is the best sport and can be a great stress reliever. I encourage all runners to spread the word of our sport and show people why running is so good and why the community of runners has such great people. 36 years but I think I got it

HAPPY FATHERS DAY!!!!!

On any normal Sunday I would be telling you how many training went for the week. Well for once I have actually no training to report, not a single thing. It took me 36 years to figure it out but I finally realized that sometimes you have to take a break and really stick to the break in order to prevent further injury. In the past I would take a few days off of running and I would be right back on the road without thinking twice. Many times I did this too early and I ended up prolonging the injury. This time around though came right at the perfect time, so I cant take all the credit.  Monday I closed on my house and this week would be filled with painting and getting the house ready to start moving things in this upcoming week. Needless to say I was super busy and it kept mind off of working out. On the down side I felt like Daniel in Karate Kid painting the fence with how much painting I got done.
Every night I still iced my calf and wore my compression socks to bed. Every other night I would alternate cold and warm patches on my muscle as well. The muscle is feeling really good and yesterday I tossed around the idea of running a local 5K with my friend Anna. When I woke up something in my head said be smart and wait till next week to run a race.(I am already registered for the Gold Jacket 5K.) I want to run it at 100 percent so sitting the race out yesterday just made sense. The course has a huge hill and I want to get in a few runs before I try to run a hill hard in a race. Tonight I am going to the gym and I plan on using the treadmill to see how the leg feels. If all goes as planned this week I will get in my runs and be ready for Sunday's race. I have to say congrats to my friend Anna who finished as the 5th female overall and would of won 1st in her age group, but somehow was registered as a male and took 3rd in that age group. hahahah it is so funny because things like this always happen to Anna at races.

Hopefully next week I have more to report and it is me saying I finally ran and how good I did at the race.  I have a busy week of moving everything into the house this week. I am a bit nervous to see how Kia reacts to a new home. We have been taking her over a few nights to get her used to the place and she really enjoys her new yard.

How was your week?
If you have ever moved and have a dog what did you do to help ease the dog into the new place?

  2. Very smart... good call in resting when you need to so you can bring it later. Hey, I still haven't figured out my crap in 36 years either... no one's perfect. lol I've only ever moved with cats, so I don't know what to say about Kia. Hopefully she'll be just fine. Our cats just hide for a while and then fight with each other to assert dominance over areas and situations as normal. Then they're over it.

    1. Kia won't have anyone to fight with except me and Amanda so let's just hope she doesn't try and do that, lol. She is not a hider but I noticed she won't leave our sides when we bring her there. Now that we are both healthier we need to do a run together

  3. Good idea taking it easy this week! That's always a great idea. Glad to hear you felt good on your run today (I guess it was yesterday now..). When we brought Selma home for the first time, we took her around on her leash and let her sniff everything (if you just let them run around they're more likely to have an accident to claim territory). Have all their old toys and some things that smell like you near them so they feel calm, and take them out more frequently than you normally would at first (in case they want to claim territory later). It might take some getting used to but most dogs adapt well to new places after a few hours! Good luck!

    1. Thanks for the helpful tips, Ya last thing I need is her going to the bathroom all over the house. We already have brought some of her toys so when she is there she see's things that are hers.

  4. Sounds like you did exactly the right thing last week. Your house needed the attention, and your body needed the recovery, so win-win! And that's a great yard for your dog. When do you actually move in? Good luck preparing this week for your upcoming 5K.

    1. Thanks, we are slowly moving things in every night this week and then on Saturday I will bring the big stuff. We have till the end of the month so it is nice being able to do a slow move and not rush in just one day
