Who Am I?

I am an avid runner and have been running since I was 15 years old. I began running low to medium distances while on my high school track team, running the 800 meter and 1600 meter races (I was a sub 5 miler and a 2 minute 800 runner). In addition to the track team, I also joined the cross country team. After high school I still wanted to run and decided to start doing road races. I have probably ran a couple hundred 5k races (16.29 PR)along with many 10k's as well. In 2009 I decided to step up my game and try to tackle my first marathon. I will be honest; the only reason I did this was because my father ran a few and I wanted to show him that I could do what he did. I trained poorly for my first one and regret it. If you are going to run a race, train like you want to win. I still continue to run marathons and other distances as well, and every race is a chance for me to better myself.
I started this blog to hopefully communicate with other runners and to shed any knowledge I may have about the sport that can help other runners. I believe running is the best sport and can be a great stress reliever. I encourage all runners to spread the word of our sport and show people why running is so good and why the community of runners has such great people. FRIDAY Randomness: Stupid is as stupid does

Welcome back to another Friday edition of random talking. This weak I am talking about stupidity. Last week was the 4th of July and I am sure you heard a few of the horror stories going around about people getting injured from fireworks. Not one but two NFL players were injured and in a different incident a man even died after shooting a mortar off his head. With these new incidents people are screaming for better firework laws and some people are even asking for the banning of fireworks all together.

Are you serious? Once again I feel like everyone has to be punished for the stupidity of a few people. The young man who lit the mortar on his head supposedly was just joking around and accidentally lit it. Anytime you handle something that can be dangerous you probably shouldn’t joke around, and you probably shouldn’t be drinking beer when you are playing with them. Don’t get me wrong here, I think that this is a tragedy, but I think this is something that could have easily been avoided. I am not the smartest person out but I am smart enough to know that you don’t stick a mortar on top of your head and light it. Was it the fireworks fault though? I think not, sure the firework is responsible for killing the man but it didn’t jump on his head and it didn’t light itself. You want to blame someone for this blame the person that did it. I know at least one of you reading this is thinking, Shaun if fireworks aren’t around then this won’t happen. I am not going to argue you on that, but that is the same shit people say about guns. If the guns aren’t on the street then people won’t be able to kill each other. Really?? I am pretty sure if I wanted to kill someone without using a gun I could figure out a way just using some household items. My point is quit pointing the finger at an object and start pointing the finger at the people who do these things. What’s next? Are we going to take cars off the road because people drive like assholes and cause accidents that kill people? If you don’t put yourself in a situation where you are at risk for bad things to happen you are better off. I understand that sometimes things can wrong and it isn’t the person’s fault, but that can happen with so many things. If you look at most accidents with the fireworks it is because the person in control was doing something wrong.

Listen in my 36 years on this earth my friends and I have done some really dumb things, some things so dumb I literally walked away thinking how we are still alive. If something would have went wrong and god forbid one of us died, you know whose fault it would have been? It would have been ours. It would have been because we were being stupid. True story here, when I was younger myself and a few friends had BB guns and decided to play war. We would shoot each other with the BB’s. I can remember one time my sister got in the line of fire and was shot in the head. I pleaded and bribed her not tell our parents.(Mom if you are reading this, don’t worry she ended up being fine) Looking back on it I am lucky one of us didn’t lose an eye or end up dead, but that was us being stupid. If you took the guns away from us we would have found another way to do something stupid.

I am interested to hear some thoughts on this.

  1. Totally agree with you dude! Same for the gun debate and mostly everything - the object is not to blame, this is the usage that is illegal! But well, the desire to control humans and the society seems to be a big deal nowadays ...

    1. Yup it seems like everything is now geared to control us. When are we gonna blame the fork for making people fat? All society does is play the blame game
