Who Am I?

I am an avid runner and have been running since I was 15 years old. I began running low to medium distances while on my high school track team, running the 800 meter and 1600 meter races (I was a sub 5 miler and a 2 minute 800 runner). In addition to the track team, I also joined the cross country team. After high school I still wanted to run and decided to start doing road races. I have probably ran a couple hundred 5k races (16.29 PR)along with many 10k's as well. In 2009 I decided to step up my game and try to tackle my first marathon. I will be honest; the only reason I did this was because my father ran a few and I wanted to show him that I could do what he did. I trained poorly for my first one and regret it. If you are going to run a race, train like you want to win. I still continue to run marathons and other distances as well, and every race is a chance for me to better myself.
I started this blog to hopefully communicate with other runners and to shed any knowledge I may have about the sport that can help other runners. I believe running is the best sport and can be a great stress reliever. I encourage all runners to spread the word of our sport and show people why running is so good and why the community of runners has such great people. The week that ended in gold

Like last week this week was very chaotic. Every night was filled with moving things from the apartment to the new house.  I still managed to get a few nights of running in a well. After my run last Sunday I was on a high. I was finally able to run with no pain and my leg felt great, I was hoping to carry that high into this week and during my race today.

Monday: 3.5 mile easy run. Even though Sunday went great I was still nervous to go all out. I ended up running a 9:00 pace. The good thing is my left didn't hurt at all and I felt really good.

Tuesday: rest day- This was not rest day by choice. We were in search of a new dining room and patio set, little did I know that this was an all night experience. By the time I got home and ate dinner it was way to late to go for a run.

Wednesday: 4 mile run: Even though I was going to the Pirate game I manged to sneak in a quick run. I pushed it a little harder than I did on Monday and I was extremly happy with my progress from the injury. I was able to hold a 8:25 pace and except for some fatigue in my legs I felt good. At the Pirate game my friend Abby and I got to watch the fireworks from the field, it was pretty cool.

Thursday: rest day- my legs were a bit sore from not running a lot the past 3 weeks so I took a rest from running and did squats, also the quest for furniture continued.

Friday- Rest day and finally found the furniture we were looking for and even found a family room couch. Score!!!!!

Saturday: official moving day: boy did we pick the shittiest day of the year to move. It was like a damn monsoon out there, but a few good friends came through in the clutch and now we are moved in. I didn't say unpacked, just moved in. Give us about 6 months for that, lol.

Sunday: Today my friend Russ and I ran the Gold Jacket 5K. Review of the race will be posted Thursday. This was Russ's first race so I wasn't sure if I should hang back and run with him or just let him go and see what he does. I let him run his own race and I was taken back when he came across in 25:21, a very respectable time for a first race. I ran a 23:15 and was extremely pleased with how I did with very little running that past few weeks.

This upcoming week I plan on getting back on schedule. I have my confidence back and I am ready to kick some ass!!

Did you race this weekend?
When you are running with a first timer do you let them go alone or do you run with them?

  2. I am thrilled to hear that you are running pain free again! Yes!! Good job this week with everything going on with the house.. and that 5K too - woohoo! As for running with a first timer I'd probably just straight up ask what they'd prefer and go with that.

    1. Ya I was going to ask but then I thought back to my first races and I figured sometimes people need to learn the common mistakes on their own
