Recently I have returned to doing some of my runs with music. I was on a nice 6 month kick of running with no music, but went into a really bad slump. I tried many different tactics in order to get me back to just running and not over thinking, but nothing was working. My last resort was to turn to music. I had previously ran with music on, but started to hear horror stories of runners getting hit by cars and to be honest it kind of scared me. Now when I run with music I try to pick a course with little or no cars and I run toward the traffic so I can see what is going on in front of me. Maybe it is in my mind, but ever since I went back to the music I have started running better. I now don’t focus on the run as much, instead I am listening to the words being sung in my ears.
I thought I would share some of the songs on my playlist that I like to listen to while I am running. You will see that I like all different types of music and tend to not just choose one genre.
Thousand Foot Krutch- Untraveled Road
Hellyeah- Hush
All That Remains- For You
Common and John Legend- Glory
Burning Yesterday- Won’t Back Down
Escape the Fate- We Won’t Back Down
Rise Against- Help Is On the Way
Pillar- Frontline
Aesop Rock- None Shall Pass
Linkin Park- When They Come for Me
Black Star- Re: Definition
Immortal Technique- The Point of No Return
Bad Meets Evil- Fast Lane
P.O.D. – Boom
Eminem- Till I Collapse
Fort Minor- Remember the Name
That's a great playlist! It's very similar to mine. I like to switch it up too because if I'm just listening to one style, especially during a long run, I zone out too hard and don't concentrate as well.
ReplyDeleteI usually switch my playlist every few months this way I don't get bored with it, and I always try to have some variety
DeleteI also just started running with music but only for speedwork and on the trail. Have you ever run with music during a race? I have a 5K coming up and am debating whether music would help me run fast or if I wouldn't be comfortable if I don't hear what's going on around me.
ReplyDeleteI use to always run races with music. It did help take my mind off the race but I found that sometimes the beat of the music was dictating my pace. I am running a race on this Saturday and next Sunday and I plan on wearing my headphones too see if I have figured out how to make it work for me in a race
