Who Am I?

I am an avid runner and have been running since I was 15 years old. I began running low to medium distances while on my high school track team, running the 800 meter and 1600 meter races (I was a sub 5 miler and a 2 minute 800 runner). In addition to the track team, I also joined the cross country team. After high school I still wanted to run and decided to start doing road races. I have probably ran a couple hundred 5k races (16.29 PR)along with many 10k's as well. In 2009 I decided to step up my game and try to tackle my first marathon. I will be honest; the only reason I did this was because my father ran a few and I wanted to show him that I could do what he did. I trained poorly for my first one and regret it. If you are going to run a race, train like you want to win. I still continue to run marathons and other distances as well, and every race is a chance for me to better myself.
I started this blog to hopefully communicate with other runners and to shed any knowledge I may have about the sport that can help other runners. I believe running is the best sport and can be a great stress reliever. I encourage all runners to spread the word of our sport and show people why running is so good and why the community of runners has such great people. Friday Randomness: Jenner

When I started these Friday random posts it started with big new in the internet. Some weeks were lacking news and I had to just talk whatever was on the mind. Well this week I don't think I have to tell you about the big news that damn near broke the internet, Caitlyn Jenner.

Who would of thought that one person could cause such an uproar. People have been debating all week over this lifestyle and Bruce's choice to become a woman. So I decided I would step in and let you all know where I stand on the matter, but before I go any further remember this is just my opinion it doesn't mean I am right or wrong, it's just what I think.

I can careless to be honest. If this is what he needed to do to be happy then I say to each their own. He claims he always felt like he was a woman trapped in a man's body and needed to transition to be truly happy. I am all for happiness, there is way to much hate and anger in the world so if this is what he needed to do then so be it.  Hey I can relate I am a Billionaire trapped in a Thousandaire's body, only problem is I haven't figured out how to transition to the Billionaire side of me. So many people were writing shit like this is a science experiment, or he is a freak. Ya I am sure someone would really do this as an experiment, come on really! Why is he a freak? because you don't agree or you wouldn't do it, who care's it isn't your body so why worry. Think about this for one second, people alter their body all the time because they aren't happy. A man who takes steroids is basically altering his body to look like something he didn't have. People get plastic surgery all the time to alter the way they look, and isn't make up changing your look? My point is we are looking way to far into this people. Unless you are one of her family members I just don't think we need to keep talking about it.

There is one issue I do have though with the whole Jenner thing. She is being rewarded the Arthur Ashe Award. I you are unfamiliar with this award let me explain it, this award is an ESPN award that goes to a person that displays bravery and courage. Most of the time it goes to a sports person but it can go to a person outside of sports. This is my problem with Caitlyn getting the award, I think she could be beneficial to young people who may be in the same situation as her, Yes it is brave for a person who was once the greatest athlete in his time to have to come out and say I have always felt like a woman, and I am changing into one. When I look at previous winners though I feel like there is more deserving people. I can think of 2 other people that were up for the award that are far more deserving than her, in my opinion. First was a soldier who lost an arm and leg in combat and now does marathons and other endurance races.( I am sorry I don't know his name) Here is a man who really is brave and risked his life day in and day out for our country. Second and the person I think really does deserve the award is Lauren Hill. Lauren passed away in April at the age of 19 from terminal brain cancer. Even though she had cancer she continued to persevere and play basketball for her college Mount St. Joseph. ESPN had the opportunity to use this young lady as way to inform more people about a disease that takes the lives of so many young people and instead decided for the second year in a row to choose something that is popular in the news right now. Last year they picked Michael Sam, the football who was the first one to come out as being gay. Once again kudo's to him for stepping up and coming out to the public, but in my opinion again I think there were people that could of got the award that deserved it just as much. Then again I am not on the committee that picks the winner so I guess they have their reasons.

Let me just say this last thing: we live in a society were everyone wants to point out things they don't like. People all of sudden think that there opinion is right and everyone else is wrong. We have become so quick to judge people, and put others down. People need to remember that most things you see on TV have very little effect on your life, Let people be happy with themselves, and try to find what makes you happy.

  2. Thanks for putting that link up. I don't see how someone like that doesn't win, it doesn't get more inspiring than that.

  3. I agree with you too. While I admire Jenner, I do think there were others more suited to the award. Lauren Hill was my original pick but there were other worthy candidates. I've honestly been kinda avoiding social media over the last few days because of the hateful things people spew about Jenner. A member of our family went through the entire gender reassignment surgery process and it's a little hard not to take some things people say to heart.

    1. Ya that would be hard to swallow since you actually know someone who has went through the process. once again it's a case of everyone saying their opinion but saying it in a hateful way.
