Who Am I?

I am an avid runner and have been running since I was 15 years old. I began running low to medium distances while on my high school track team, running the 800 meter and 1600 meter races (I was a sub 5 miler and a 2 minute 800 runner). In addition to the track team, I also joined the cross country team. After high school I still wanted to run and decided to start doing road races. I have probably ran a couple hundred 5k races (16.29 PR)along with many 10k's as well. In 2009 I decided to step up my game and try to tackle my first marathon. I will be honest; the only reason I did this was because my father ran a few and I wanted to show him that I could do what he did. I trained poorly for my first one and regret it. If you are going to run a race, train like you want to win. I still continue to run marathons and other distances as well, and every race is a chance for me to better myself.
I started this blog to hopefully communicate with other runners and to shed any knowledge I may have about the sport that can help other runners. I believe running is the best sport and can be a great stress reliever. I encourage all runners to spread the word of our sport and show people why running is so good and why the community of runners has such great people. Random Friday: You Built What?

It has been long over due since I have written a Random Friday post. For anyone that is new to my blog this is where I get to discuss things that have nothing to do with running. It's the one day of the week that I talk about whatever is big on the internet or in the news, and this week we are talking about Ahmed Mohamed.
I am guessing you have probably heard about this young man Ahmed who brought a clock to school and was arrested because a teacher thought it was a bomb. Needless to say it was not a bomb, and now this kid Ahmed is like a damn celebrity. President Obama invited him to the White House. Mark Zuckerberg invited him to come to Facebook, he has received gifts from Microsoft and even a scholarship for being such an innovator. Not bad for a kid who made a clock. For the record this kid really didn't make a clock, he took apart a clock and then transferred the parts into a pencil case. I can tell you this much when I made a bong back in 9th grade and tried to pass it as potpourri holder I didn't get shit except an ear full from my parents and suspended. Where the hell was all those people to tell me how I was a go getter.  Anyway let me tell you what I think about this whole thing.  If you are one of those people up in arms about the teacher over reacting me and you are not on the same team. Kudo's to this teacher for doing their job. I don't have any kids but if I had a kid I would want a teacher who was worried when they saw something that could be suspicious. If this teacher wouldn't have said anything and that thing really was a bomb people would be up in arms saying this teacher didn't do their job. That teacher was in a you're damned if you do, you're damned if you don't position. Lets be serious too, the clock looked like a fucking bomb. If this kid was so damn smart he had to have known it looked like a bomb and may set off some red flags.
As far as the racially profiling. I am sorry to say this and I am sure a lot of you will disagree but in today's world we have the right to profile people. After 9/11 I can guarantee you almost every person who gets on a plane and see's a Muslim gets a bit worried. Are all Muslims bad, Nope but when most of the terrorist are Muslims then you are going to get profiled. I shave my head and do you know how many times I have been asked if I am a skinhead? A whole lot. That is people profiling me, and do I get mad? Nope, I understand why they might think that. For real though look at the picture of the clock, I look at that and see bomb. This may sound morbid and down right crazy but I honestly thought this sounds like someone was doing a "dry run". I mean just think you take something into a place and get an idea of how they react. If they don't pay attention then you are good to go for a real thing. Sounds crazy right? but you have no clue what goes on in anyone's minds these days. This is just me thinking out loud though and who the hell am I.

  1. You are so funny...potpourri holder had me cracking up!! I have to agree with everything- there's so much crap going on especially in schools, so if something looks suspicious the teachers have a responsibility to do something.
Everytime Dan and I go somewhere with security (pirate game, airport) he's always "randomly selected" because he has darker skin and lots of facial hair. We know it's not random and he fits a profile, and neither of us have a problem with it. If that keeps everyone safe, what's the harm?!

    1. Exactly, what is the harm if it keeps everyone safe. I know I would rather be safe than have to worry about the what if's.
