Who Am I?

I am an avid runner and have been running since I was 15 years old. I began running low to medium distances while on my high school track team, running the 800 meter and 1600 meter races (I was a sub 5 miler and a 2 minute 800 runner). In addition to the track team, I also joined the cross country team. After high school I still wanted to run and decided to start doing road races. I have probably ran a couple hundred 5k races (16.29 PR)along with many 10k's as well. In 2009 I decided to step up my game and try to tackle my first marathon. I will be honest; the only reason I did this was because my father ran a few and I wanted to show him that I could do what he did. I trained poorly for my first one and regret it. If you are going to run a race, train like you want to win. I still continue to run marathons and other distances as well, and every race is a chance for me to better myself.
I started this blog to hopefully communicate with other runners and to shed any knowledge I may have about the sport that can help other runners. I believe running is the best sport and can be a great stress reliever. I encourage all runners to spread the word of our sport and show people why running is so good and why the community of runners has such great people. A Walk Inside My Mind

Whether you run a full marathon or a half your mind races with thoughts. This past weekend I may have only ran the half but my mind was all over the place. I decided to give you a look inside my head and try to walk you through what was going on inside the old noggin.  Let us begin......

"I hate standing in this fucking corral, what if I have to piss?"
"Would people look at me strange if I just whipped it out and started to piss on the street?"
"This race starts at 7? FUCK I told my wife 7:30"
"Oh look its @pghrunnner standing 2 people in front of me, I should say hi. No I better not bother her before the race."
"And there goes the gun. Time to go to work Shaun, no holding back."
"Jesus it's crowded. I am behind the 1:40 pace group I am going to need to break free and make up some time."
"AHHH why wont these people move and just let me through?"
"Hey I know that guy on the sidewalk, what a dickhead"
"Finally some room, look out people here I come"
"Boom mile 1 down in 7:50, not to shabby!!!"
"I need to hold this pace for a bit.."
"Mile 2...I am still feeling good."
"I hate this bridge, did someone just call my name? hey look it's steph. I better smile and make it look like I am feeling good. She should be running and not taking pictures. Man is she lucky"
"Amanda should be standing here, but since I told her the wrong time I guess she isn't"
"Where did I get 7:30?"
"Mile 4, what the hell is my pace.. damn you Garmin for not working."
"Oh shit I have to piss"
"Finally a port-o-potty, I should invent something that allows you to pee while you run. There goes a minute of my time"
"Look out runners I am fresh out of pee and on a mission."
"Oh shit, wait, yes that is my calf muscle starting to get tight"
"slow down Shaun you can make it up later once the leg gets loose"
"Still hurting"
"Still hurting"
"I should run off the course and hit up that taco bell"
"I hate this bridge and I know my time is way off"
"West end you always get me so pumped"
"So pumped I have to pee again...FUCK!!!!!!"
"Okay Shaun you are down but you are not out"
"There is Station Square, maybe I will see Abby."
"well there goes Station Square and I didn't see Abby, oh well"
"I hate Carson St. so many bars and people drinking and my dumb ass is running"
"There goes my dad, he is probably thinking here comes Shaun.. Jesus does he suck I wish my oldest son still run so at least someone good was running."
"There goes my sister, I need to throw her my water bottle."
"I wish I had something funny to throw at her, like a tennis ball or something."
"Thank God only 2 more miles"
"I hate this bridge, but at least I am almost done. god do I feel bad for people that still have another half to go"
"Beer stop... Don't mind If I do"
"OHHH beer was such a bad idea"
"get up this hill and its all down hill from here"
"what did that group of girls say to me? they said keep going but I heard Damn he looks good. That's right lady's drink it up."
"Finally the top of hill, 1 mile from the finish"
"I should be happy, but I know when I finish I am getting yelled at by the wifey for running a shitty race"
"I like that she gets mad, it motivates me"
"hey that guy is dressed as a Captain America"
"I can see the finish line"
"I am in so much pain, but my body is saying sprint"
"I am going to sprint"
"not yet"
"okay now"
"Thank god I am done"
"give me my medal"
"Where do I get my runner of steel medal"
"What a disappointing race"
"How in the hell am I going to find my wife in this mess, making plans would of been smart"

So there you have what runs through my goofy mind when I am in a race!!!  As you can see it goes all over the place.

  1. Haha thanks for this! I can relate to some of these thoughts! I usually have lots of "standing in the corral" thoughts. Most of them are not nice. I really don't like standing in corrals, however necessary it may be.

    1. I am with you on that, I can't stand being in the corrals. It's always to crowded and someone always stinks, lol... Plus like I said I always have to go to the bathroom

  2. HAHA!!! Love these - especially the "drink it up ladies"!! Nicely done!

  3. This is so funny!! I think a lot of the same things (although my thoughts aren't quite as vulgar LOL!!) I agree with "I better smile and make it look like I am feeling good." when someone is taking a pic...got to stop grimacing and hunching over and act like I'm having the time of my life (such a faker)

    1. Hahahah that is the mind set exactly, anyone with a camera that day thought I was running the race of my life, as soon as that camera was away I was ready to curl up in a ball on the pavement

  4. My thoughts are usually pretty ridiculous or doing math...

    1. Math? Someone else said they do that shit
