Who Am I?

I am an avid runner and have been running since I was 15 years old. I began running low to medium distances while on my high school track team, running the 800 meter and 1600 meter races (I was a sub 5 miler and a 2 minute 800 runner). In addition to the track team, I also joined the cross country team. After high school I still wanted to run and decided to start doing road races. I have probably ran a couple hundred 5k races (16.29 PR)along with many 10k's as well. In 2009 I decided to step up my game and try to tackle my first marathon. I will be honest; the only reason I did this was because my father ran a few and I wanted to show him that I could do what he did. I trained poorly for my first one and regret it. If you are going to run a race, train like you want to win. I still continue to run marathons and other distances as well, and every race is a chance for me to better myself.
I started this blog to hopefully communicate with other runners and to shed any knowledge I may have about the sport that can help other runners. I believe running is the best sport and can be a great stress reliever. I encourage all runners to spread the word of our sport and show people why running is so good and why the community of runners has such great people. Justice Has Been Served!!!

For the families of Krystle Campbell, Martin Richard, Lingzi Lu, and Sean Collier justice was served today. The jury reached a verdict and found Dzhokhar Tsarnaev guilty on all 30 counts of charges against him for his role in the bombing at the Boston Marathon, Arpil 15th 2013. A new trial will begin in which the jury will determine the fate of Tsarnaev. Give him life in prison or give him the death penalty.
It's hard to believe that it is coming up on two years since the fatal bombing. I can still remember it as if it was yesterday. I was at work when I heard the news. I immediately started to think of all the people there that I knew. I was praying they were all okay. Luckily none of them were injured. After work that day I was glued to the television watching the aftermath. It was like something out of a movie. I remember being sad, and angry. Why would someone do this? What did they have to gain by injuring all those people. I still get angry thinking about it, but then I remember the way the country came together and United as one. It wasn't about being a runner, it was about being a human and wanting justice for the people who were injured or lost their life.
Today's verdict wasn't reallly a surprise. You kind of knew they were going to find him guilty. I mean the evidence was stacked against him. The next trial will be an interesting one though. Life or death? This is where it is going to get interesting. Capital punishment is an issue where everyone seems to have their own opinion. I will be honest I don't know where I stand on this one, not capital punishment in general just in this case. Part of me says an eye for eye. Here is a person that took 4 lives and injured hundreds. My instinct says why should he get to live and waste air when their were people more deserving that lost their life to soon. Then I go to the other end of the spectrum and I think let him live and suffer daily knowing he will spend the rest of his life in a small cell and will probably never see the light of day again.  It's a hard one to decide. I wonder what the families of the victims want. Nothing can be done to bring back your loved one, but maybe one of the punishments will give you peace of mind and bring more of a closure to this.  I can't even begin to imagine what they are and have been going through.  Well no matter what the decision is to come I know I am like the majority who is happy to see justice being served.

  1. I had some of the same feelings and memories when I heard the verdict. One thing I just learned this week that I didn't know before is that he casually bought a gallon of milk in a convenience store a half hour after the bomb went off. It made me feel sick to my stomach.

    1. Ya I just found that out too, makes you wonder how a person can do that and be so casual about it, as if nothing happened
