What can I say about winter at this point except I am over it. I am done logging onto Facebook and seeing people update the weather like the rest of us don't know what is going on. I am tired of seeing pictures of peoples car temperatures. I am flat out just tired of winter. You will never hear me complain about the heat, but these cold temps. are killing my runs. This week was all treadmill workouts, and I can not stand the treadmill.
So this is how this week went down for me:
MONDAY: 3 miles 26:34 and a shoulder workout. One thing I have noticed is even though Monday, Wednesday, and Friday's are usually only 3 miles, my casual pace had dropped in this short amount of time on this plan. I am now going sub 9 minute miles and I am hardly breaking a sweat. I feel really good on these runs and I am now starting to believe that if you work on the short runs the long runs will really benefit.
TUESDAY: My workout called for a hill workout, but I had free passes to go see McFarland. You can read my review that is a few post's back. I highly recommend you go see this movie. I am already putting this in my top 10 list.
WEDNESDAY: 3 miles in 26:38. I also did a arm and ab workout.
THURSDAY: 30 minute tempo run. I broke the run up into 10 minute sections. I ran the first 10 minutes at a 9:13 pace then I dropped down to a 7:10 pace for the next ten minutes and finished back at a 9:13 pace. Shins were on fire for this run, and I am really dreading doing speed workouts on the treadmill.
FRIDAY: REST DAY
SATURDAY:I had all plans of waking up and doing a 5K at race pace. Unfortunately on Friday when I was driving home from work my car basically kicked the bucket. Saturday morning was spent sitting at the car dealership buying a new car. By the time I left the dealership in my new ride, the roads were a mess and cars were sliding everywhere. I couldn't even make it up my hill to get home. I had to park down the road and walk. Not the day I had in mind.
SUNDAY (Today): Even though my plan calls for a rest day, I am going to do some cross training. Nothing major just some small workouts I can do around the house.
Hopefully next week I don't run into any issues like this week, and I can get in my entire workout.
How did your week go?
What is your all time favorite sport movie? mine is McFarland and Without Limits... 2 great running movies.
Hey, you did what you could given the conditions this week. It sounds like you're in really good shape so I don't think one off week will set you back!
ReplyDeleteI am hoping and praying every day for a break in this weather. I would really rather have to worry about "beating the heat" than falling on ice or hypothermia. I'm tired of this winter!
Movies: I like Rudy and The Blind Side. As for running, I know it might sound silly but the original Spirit of the Marathon really got to me and helped inspire me to get out there and train for a marathon so it will always have a special place in my heart.
2 great movies!!! I am ashamed to say this but I never saw spirit of the marathon, I will have to check it out though. I agree I would rather beat the heat than the icy conditions and what comes with it.
DeleteI had to laugh at the part about people on FB posting about the weather like the rest of us don't know what's going on. Ha ha! This weather is definitely messing with people's training! I think you had a good week given the conditions. The good news is that next week is supposed to be nicer. I definitely want to see McFarland USA but I'm so bad about seeing movies that I will likely wait for it to come out on Netflix in a year.
ReplyDeleteYou know I am right thought about the facebook posts. I always want to write thank god someone posted how cold it is or else I would of left the house in shorts.
DeleteThe weather is seriously screwing with us right now. We are all going to earn that Runner of Steel title this year, for sure! It's hard to not get frustrated when outside factors get in the way of training, but you're still doing great!
ReplyDeleteIt's great that you're seeing your paces drop, too!
I love sports movies; Remember the Titans is one of my all time favorites, so is A League of Their Own, The Blind Side and of course Spirit of the Marathon!
I thought last year was bad and I have never seen so many people walking during the race, I am afraid to see what this year is going to look like. We will def. Earn that title
